Welcome to the #CourageousCrowns campaign, where entrepreneurs have banded together to support The Olive Branch of Hope throughout the month of November. Here, we celebrate the hair journeys of Black women living with and beyond breast cancer.

Brought together by our partners Blk Book Fair and Beautiful Women Society, these amazing entrepreneurs have raised their hands to do their part to raise funds for and awareness of the work being done by our nonprofit partner.

Hey Sister,

You know, as women who are visionary leaders of businesses and nonprofit organizations, it is so easy to get caught up in the activity and the doing and the empire building and fixing the world and...and...and....

Where do we get to breathe? Where do we connect with likeminded women, yes to network and partner, but also to build relationships that matter, with people who get us?

Welcome to #HERstory by 2114. Through public events and our private membership, we are here to sit down around the pink campfire and refuel ourselves in a community of women who just get it.

HERstory founder J. Nadia Headley

J. Nadia Headley began #HERstory in 2018 with a cafe event called "Black HERstory Month" which featured and author and a spoken word artist who are both melanated women.

During the 2020 pandemic lockdown due to COVID-19, she knew that she needed to reach out to the masses to help cut through the fear, isolation and confusion and bring a source of light and encouragement. She reached out and hosted 14 women leaders over 19 days. These brave women shared stories of difficult situations like divorce, major illness, miscarriage, homelessness and immigration.

The ladies were so impacted that they asked Nadia to find a way to keep it going. As a social development practitioner focused on social entrepreneurship and the improvement of education delivery services, Nadia decided that whatever they did together, they had to raise funds and awareness for a nonprofit organization. In 2020, during the pandemic, #HERstory by 2114 hosted 6 monthly webinars and featured several interviews showcasing the talents of female entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders.

Needing to go deeper and better connect with the women, Nadia launched the new Mastermind series. Nadia is excellent at creating and holding space to provide an elevated platform to others. This new mastermind series brought 4 visionary women together with Nadia to look at the deeper issues that we face as visionary women. This stellar team of mastermind facilitators presented different perspectives on the same themes, creating a rich repository of knowledge for our community members.

With the encouragement of many sisters, Nadia will return to deliver masterminds based on the topics that have been raised as areas of concern or interest by this community of non-profit and entrepreneurship leaders.

#HERstory by 2114 is dedicated helping visionary women who are female entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders grow your impact, organization and legacy. #HERstory by 2114 allows visionary women who are called to undertake a powerfully massive work to realise a vision that is larger than life. The visionary women in our community may be experiencing success in silos living with highs and lows simultaneously and worried that they don't know how to create harmonious success throughout their lives. Many of the visionary women in our community question whether or not it is worth pursuing such lofty goals when no one around them seems to understand the urgency of bringing their vision - their life's purpose - to fruition. Many of the leaders in our community have run away from the vision because the weight of the calling bore down too heavily and they felt isolated carrying a passion that was hard to define and harder to discuss.

Sisters, this is where you are understood, supported, encouraged and fortified. This growing community of visionary women is an absolutely necessary place for you to deeply root yourself so you can flourish as you were designed to. You will not find a better place anywhere else.

In this space, you aren't told to forget your family, health and wellbeing in order to grind and hustle. In fact, quite the opposite. Not only are you able to deepen your own knowledge of self, heal the old wounds that hold you back and launch out with better financial health and wellness habits, but you also get to tap into the wealth of resources from community members. While doing all of this, every month that you renew your membership, you are also supporting our nonprofit partner for each respective year.

Want to learn more? Our founder Nadia is an open book and would love a chance to chat with you. Feel free to book yourself right into her calendar.

Our Nonprofit Partner

The Olive Branch of Hope is an organization that has over 20 years supporting Black women with Breast Cancer.

TOBOH provides:

-help and information to newly diagnosed individuals and families

-relatable programs in a safe and confidential environments

-educational seminars on health and wellness

Our focus this year is to raise funds to help women of African Descent purchase lymphedema devices. While modern medicine may rid the body of cancer, treating cancer can have lifelong effects, including lymphedema. When the lymph nodes are removed, sometime fluid can build up in the body. This swelling can triple the size of a limb and be very painful. Specialised compression devices help the fluid to move through the body and lessens the effect of lymphedema. These devices are rarely covered by insurance companies and are necessary for the rest of a person's life.

Learn more about TOBOH here:

TOBOH support group sessions allow women the freedom to discuss the disease and its impact in a caring, judgment-free environment with women just like themselves. Caregivers are welcomed and encouraged.

These meetings are informative, uplifting and inspiring.  Bring a friend or loved one!

The group is facilitated by one of TOBOH’s six Ambassadors who are all breast cancer survivors. Each one has their own story and unique way to lead the discussion on various health matters relating to your cancer journey.

The goal is to bring together survivors, patients and caregivers of African Ancestry in an informal setting where confidentiality is mandatory, and you are respected. You will be given the opportunity (although not obligated) to share your experiences and challenges of living with cancer and learn from each other.

For your convenience, meetings are held in the GTA and Peel Region:

The Toronto support group is held every 3rd Saturday of each month.

The Peel Region support group is held every 2nd last Saturday of each month.

During COVID-19 and until further notice, all meetings are held virtually by zoom.

Vision

Isn't it ironic?

Don't cha think?

We know that we are visionary women, but sometimes, the vision is clouded, becomes distant and unsure. Sometimes it scares the living daylight out of us. So we will start by focusing on vision.

Voice

Most of us are born with a voice, but we have to learn how to use it.

That learning doesn't begin in diapers and end in kindergarten. We gotta keep on keeping on and redefine our voice.

Some of us need to find our voice again. Some of us have lost connection with the strength of our voice. No matter where we are, we still possess all the potential with which we were born.

Even if we cannot physically speak, we learn sign language, we communicate in other ways. We still have a voice worth harnessing.

Version

We've made a lot of decisions, hard decisions, life changing decisions. Some of these decisions brought happiness and some brought pain. In the end, they all brought us here.

Telling our story will empower us to determine the narrative, to guide the version of our story that is told. If we leave it up to the masses, who knows how we will be remembered.

The power of unleashing our story is doing it despite the fear we feel and the opinions of others.

Victory

Take a deep breath.

Inhale the calm, relaxed, victory that comes with the freedom of standing in our power and walking in our truth.

Sail the oceans of possibility, mount the waves of adversity and cruise to the song of our soul.

Let's go beyond dreaming and start to waltz in our victory.
